Meeting Between Somalia’s Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Uganda’s Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia, Mr. Hamza Adan Haadoow met with Uganda’s Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, to strengthen bilateral relations and advance regional cooperation. Mr.

Haadoow commended Uganda’s leadership in hosting the African Union’s CAADP summit and emphasized the importance of their enduring partnership.

Discussions focused on Somalia’s bid for a seat on the African Union Peace and Security Council, the Ankara Declaration with Ethiopia, and joint efforts to address the conflict in Sudan. Both officials stressed the need for regional unity to foster peace and stability.

Mr. Haadoow provided updates on Somalia’s preparations for the 2025 local elections and 2026 national elections, highlighting the move toward a one-person-one-vote system. He also expressed interest in Uganda’s diplomatic training programs to enhance Somalia’s governance and capacity-building efforts.

The meeting concluded with a pledge to revitalize the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) between the two nations. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing trade, security cooperation, and cultural exchange for mutual benefit.
