Mohamed Mahmud is a Strategic Communications Consultant, Digital Brand Visibility Expert, Documentary Producer, and International Broadcast Journalist with over 16 years of experience. Through his work, Mohamed has provided relevant, insightful, and in-depth coverage of events across Africa and beyond. Currently, he serves as the Director of Communications and ICT for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, drawing on his extensive experience as Media Officer and Consultant to the 8th President of Somalia, Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Throughout his career, Mohamed has consistently delivered impactful media and communication strategies, including spearheading the successful media campaign for President Hassan Sheikh’s election. His expertise lies in crafting high-impact communication strategies, executing influential media campaigns, and producing content that resonates with diverse global audiences.
As an international broadcast journalist, Mohamed has contributed to renowned media outlets such as BBC, TRT World (Turkey), Voice of America, Press TV (Iran), France 24, and TVC News (Nigeria). He is also responsible for producing, writing, and reporting news, features, and documentaries for television, radio, and digital platforms. From political developments to cultural stories, Mohamed unearths unique narratives, aiming to tell Africa’s story on the global stage.
Additionally, Mohamed has worked in Kenya for leading media organizations, including Citizen TV, KTN News, and as part of the production teams for the Vice President’s Press Service (VPPS) and the Prime Minister’s Press Service (PMPS) in Nairobi. Early in his career, Mohamed gained recognition for his work as a television actor, producer, and scriptwriter for local Kenyan programs, including the popular series Tahidi High, where he played the character Jamal. His dedication to amplifying African stories has earned him widespread recognition.
As a seasoned media professional, Mohamed managed the editorial desk and newsgathering processes at Switch TV in Kenya, where he led the newsroom team in planning and executing coverage of breaking news and news bulletins. His leadership extended from the initial planning phase to the final broadcast, ensuring the successful airing of news content and documentaries.
In addition to his journalistic work, Mohamed has undergone hostile environment reporting training and completed a course on digital journalism. His reporting portfolio includes coverage of significant events such as the capture of the last al-Shabaab stronghold, Barawe, by AMISOM forces in September 2014, and the attack on Westgate Mall, one of the deadliest attacks in Kenya since the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombing.
