The Federal Republic of Somalia has been elected to serve as a Member of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) for the 2026โ2028 term, a major milestone that underscores Somaliaโs renewed standing and rising contribution to Africaโs peace and security agenda.
This election reflects the confidence placed in Somalia by fellow AU Member States. Somalia extends its sincere gratitude to all countries that supported its candidacy, with special appreciation for the unity and solidarity demonstrated by Member States of the Eastern Africa region.
Somalia joins the Council with a clear purpose: to strengthen conflict prevention, support peacebuilding and reconciliation, advance counter-terrorism cooperation, and contribute to post-conflict recovery across the continent. Grounded in its own experience of state-building and security sector reform, Somalia will bring practical insight and a principled approach to the PSCโs mandate.
Somalia remains committed to multilateralism, African solidarity, and stronger collective security mechanisms. Working closely with AU partners, Somalia will champion a more stable, peaceful, and prosperous Africa for all.
