Addis Ababa (MFA Somalia) It began with outreach. It continued with persistence. It culminated today in victory. Somalia’s election to the African Union Peace and Security Council (2026–2028) is proof that consistent engagement delivers results.

Under the leadership of H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and H.E. Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, today’s victory reflects Somalia’s renewed diplomatic direction and national unity on the continental stage.

In Addis Ababa, H.E. Abdisalam Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, led a strong delegation that included the State Minister, the Permanet Secretary, Somalia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, The Embassy staff plus The Ministry’s Chief of Staff, driving focused consultations across the African Union

At headquarters in Mogadishu, the Acting Permanent Secretary and the Director General for EAC Affairs, together with all departmental directors, coordinated closely to ensure every engagement translated into trust and support across the continent. We extend our sincere gratitude to AU Member States for their vote of confidence.

Today’s victory is more than a formality. It is a testament to teamwork, professionalism, and Somalia’s commitment to continental peace and security. Well done to the entire MFA team. Somalia now steps forward ready to serve with seriousness and purpose.
