The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Federal Republic of Somalia, with facilitation by the Republic of Türkiye, held a high-level meeting in Ankara hosted by H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Türkiye. The meeting brought together H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and H.E. Abiy Ahmed Ali, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, for frank and constructive discussions.
Key outcomes of the meeting include:
• Reaffirmation of respect for each nation’s sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity, guided by international law and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
• Agreement to resolve differences amicably and work cooperatively toward shared prosperity.
• Recognition of the sacrifices of Ethiopian soldiers in African Union Missions and acknowledgment of the mutual benefits of access to and from the sea under Somalia’s sovereign authority.
• A commitment to finalize bilateral agreements by February 2025 with Türkiye’s facilitation.
• Türkiye’s continued support for peaceful dialogue and the implementation of these commitments.
