FM Ahmed Fiqi Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Strengthening Diaspora Engagement

Mogadishu (MFA Somalia) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Amb. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, delivered a speech on Saturday evening at an iftar hosted by the Diaspora Affairs Department at the ministry’s headquarters, emphasizing the vital role of the Somali diaspora in national development and highlighting their significant contributions.
In his remarks, the Minister underscored the crucial role of the Somali diaspora in the country’s recovery, investment, and reconstruction efforts, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening engagement with the diaspora and acknowledging their significant contributions to economic growth and knowledge transfer.
He stated that construction on the Somali Diaspora Affairs Management Center has begun, representing an important step in strengthening institutional support for diaspora affairs. The center is designed to improve coordination, create investment opportunities, and provide reintegration support for returning citizens.
The Minister encouraged Dr. Mohamed Hussein Gaas, Director of the Diaspora Affairs Department, to enhance engagement with the diaspora and returning citizens, reaffirming their vital role in national development, promoting inclusive participation, fostering strategic partnerships, and ensuring their contributions support the country’s progress and stability.
Minister Ahmed Fiqi reflected on the spiritual and communal significance of Ramadan, stressing the virtues of fasting and the importance of public service during this sacred month, underscoring the need for collective effort in the nation’s advancement.
