FM Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi met with the Swedish Ambassador to Somalia, Joachim Waern, at the Ministry’s Headquarters. Their discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between Somalia and Sweden in the areas of security, human rights, and Sweden’s support for Somalia’s sovereignty.
FM Fiqi highlighted key outcomes from the Asmara Trilateral talks involving Somalia, Egypt, and Eritrea, noting their success in advancing regional peace and development, particularly in building Somalia’s military capabilities.
Ambassador Waern commended Somalia’s new role at the UN Security Council and praised FM Fiqi’s diplomatic efforts in addressing regional issues, especially ahead of the third phase of the Ankara talks between Somalia and Ethiopia. He also expressed appreciation for the positive contributions of the Somali community in Sweden.
FM Fiqi reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to contributing effectively at the UN Security Council, with a focus on critical issues such as climate change, regional stability, human rights, and the rights of women and children. He emphasized Somalia’s dedication to advancing peace and security in the Horn of Africa and across the continent.
