FM Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi met with INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock on the sidelines of the UNGA summit in New York to enhance Somalia’s role in combating transnational crimes and terrorism. Somalia, as a frontline defense, has been instrumental in preventing these threats from spilling over into the region and beyond.
During the meeting, FM Fiqi emphasized the need for continued collaboration with INTERPOL to strengthen Somali law enforcement’s capacity in tackling terrorism, cybercrime, and illicit trafficking. He highlighted Somalia’s recent advancements in weapons management, which led to the lifting of the longstanding arms embargo, a significant achievement in bolstering international security.
INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock commended the progress made by the Somali Police Force (SPF) in their fight against organized crimes and promised to work closely with Somalia’s security forces, particularly the police, to enhance their capabilities in combating transnational crimes. FM Fiqi also outlined Somalia’s strategic priorities for the years ahead, focusing on collaborative security efforts.
