Foreign Minister Meets James Swan to Strengthen Somalia-UN Collaboration.

Foreign Minister Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi met with James Swan, the Acting Special Representative of the United Nations, to strengthen Somalia’s collaboration with the UN and discuss key priorities, including Somalia’s new role at the UN Security Council, security initiatives, and the National Consultative Council (NCC) dialogue with regional leaders.

Swan congratulated Ambassador Fiqi and the Federal Government on the successful launch of the United Nations Transitional Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) on November 1st. Their discussions highlighted the mission’s planning phase, enhancing UN-Somalia coordination and establishing a joint roadmap to align UNTMIS with Somalia’s strategic objectives for stability and development. This roadmap will reinforce Somalia’s leadership in advancing peace and security in the region.

Ambassador Fiqi also briefed Swan on the positive developments in the Ankara Talks and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving a one-person, one-vote electoral model, pending agreement within the NCC. Both leaders underscored the importance of sustained partnership to support Somalia’s progress toward peace and democratic governance.
