His Excellency Fathudin Ali Mohamed, Somalia’s Ambassador to Turkey, attended the grand farewell ceremony for the distinguished oil exploration vessel, Oruç Reis, held today in Istanbul, Türkiye. This landmark event marks the beginning of a new chapter in Somalia’s energy sector, as the Oruç Reis—supported by additional surveying vessels and military ships for security—embarks on a mission to explore and tap into Somalia’s promising oil and natural gas reserves.
The ceremony was attended by an esteemed delegation, including His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey, Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Abdirizak Omar Mohamed, Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, His Excellency Fathudin Ali Mohamed, Somalia’s Director of the Petroleum Authority, Eng. Abdulqadir Aden Mohamed, and several other senior dignitaries.
Somalia, endowed with vast oil and natural gas potential, regards this occasion as a historic milestone. Acknowledgement and appreciation were extended to the government of Turkey for its steadfast support, with hopes for continued success and prosperity as this initiative propels Somalia toward greater economic development and a more robust energy sector.
