Today, Foreign Minister Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi and Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, His Excellency Ahmed Hassan Aden, launched Somalia’s first Fisheries Lab. This groundbreaking initiative represents a significant milestone for Somalia, opening up new opportunities and innovation in the fishing sector.
Following the inauguration, the two Ministers, alongside the Director General of the Ministry of Fisheries, conducted an inspection of the new facility. The tour looked at the lab’s advanced capabilities to support sustainable fisheries development through research, training, and industry support.
With the longest coastline in Africa, Somalia possesses vast marine resources that have the potential to transform our economy and uplift communities across the country. The new Fisheries Lab will be a cornerstone for sustainable fisheries development, offering enhanced resources for Somali fishers and industry stakeholders. This landmark achievement not only strengthens Somalia’s economy but also underscores our commitment to harnessing our natural resources responsibly for the benefit of all.
