Arab Ministerial Working Group Affirms Strong Support for Somalia’s Sovereignty
Cairo, Egypt – Somalia’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, chaired the Arab Ministerial Working Group meeting held alongside the 162nd session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level.
The meeting, which took place at the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo, brought together foreign ministers from the Arab countries committee dedicated to supporting Somalia.
The focus of the discussions was on enhancing Arab solidarity and support for Somalia in its efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity. In a strong show of unity, the committee reaffirmed their full solidarity with Somalia and collectively rejected any external interference or attempts to infringe upon Somalia’s sovereignty.
The ministers also called upon neighboring countries especially Ethiopia to refrain from actions that could destabilize Somalia or undermine its sovereignty.
Represented by their Foreign Ministers, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Mauritania, and Egypt, along with the Djibouti Ambassador and the Secretary-General of the Arab League, collectively rejected the Ethiopia Annexation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the official statement of the Arab Committee in Support of Somalia.
This statement reflects the unwavering commitment of the Arab League and its member states to defend and uphold the sovereignty of Somalia, in alignment with international principles of non-interference and respect for territorial integrity.
