Asmara: October 10, 2024
We, the Presidents of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Federal Republic of
Somalia, met in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, on October 10, 2024, following a
high-level invitation from His Excellency Isaias Afwerki, President of Eritrea. We
agreed on the following matters:
1. Strengthening support for the unity, independence, territorial integrity,
and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia, while rejecting any
actions that threaten the nation’s unity and independence.
2. Enhancing and strengthening cooperation and integration among the
three countries to improve the capacity of Somalia’s governmental
institutions in addressing both internal and external challenges, while
building Somalia’s national forces to combat terrorism, protect land and
maritime borders, and preserve the country’s territorial integrity.
3. Welcoming United Nations Security Council Decision No. 2714 (2023),
which lifted the arms embargo on the Federal Republic of Somalia, and
commending the efforts of the Somali National Armed Forces, under the
leadership of President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, for enhancing the
capacity and development of the Somali National Army (SNA) to extend
government authority nationwide and safeguard the country’s national
resources .
4. Commending the African Union’s Peace and Security Council’s call (Session
No. 1225) regarding the new African Union Mission, AUSSOM, which aims to support stability in Somalia in alignment with Somalia’s vision and
priorities. Also welcoming the Arab Republic of Egypt’s proposal to
participate in AUSSOM forces.
5. Supporting the Federal Republic of Somalia’s call for the completion of
funding for AUSSOM forces and emphasizing that international support is
crucial for securing peace and stability in Somalia, which is essential for
both regional and global security.
6. Pledging full support to the Federal Republic of Somalia during its term as
a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (2025-
2026), as it represents the interests of Africa.
7. Strengthening and sustaining bilateral consultations and coordination on
regional and international issues of mutual interest to both countries.
