New York, (MFA Somalia) –President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia addressed the General Debate of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He spoke about a world under growing strain from conflict, geopolitical rivalry, climate change and weakening international cooperation.
The President outlined the progress Somalia has made in rebuilding the state, deepening democracy, strengthening security, finalising the Constitution, reforming education, growing the economy and holding inclusive elections.
He urged the international community to restore confidence in the United Nations, reinforce multilateralism and ensure that international decisions are carried out. Africa, he said, can no longer be kept out of the rooms where the future of the world is decided.
President Hassan Sheikh also reaffirmed Somalia’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, statehood, peace and security. He called for a just and lasting two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian State.
