Press Statement (for immediate release)

Mogadishu, Somalia
March 18, 2025

The Somali National Army (SNA) continues to advance in its military operations against Al-Shabaab, dislodging the terrorists from their remaining hideouts in rural Middle Shabelle. As the national forces secure decisive victories, the enemy, in a futile and cowardly act, attempted an attack on the presidential convoy earlier today.

At approximately 10:32 AM, an explosion targeted the convoy in Mogadishu’s Hamar-Jajab district as the President was en route to join frontline troops in Hirshabelle State for Iftar. The attack failed entirely, and the President proceeded to his destination without disruption.

This act of desperation, which tragically resulted in civilian casualties, underscores the terrorists’ dwindling capabilities as they suffer successive defeats at the hands of the SNA. Security agencies are conducting a comprehensive investigation, and further details will be provided in due course.

Somalia’s resolve in the fight against terrorism is unshakable. With the unity of the nation and the unwavering support of international partners, the forces of extremism will be decisively overcome, paving the way for a future of peace and stability.

The government expresses its profound appreciation to Somalia’s friends and partners for standing by the country in this critical fight, demonstrating a shared commitment to global security and stability.
