Cairo (MFA Somalia) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi Ahmed, met on Wednesday in Cairo with his counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, H.E. Dr. Abdel Atty, on the sidelines of the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the Khartoum Process and discussed with him ways to strengthen historical bilateral relations, advance strategic cooperation and explore new opportunities for cooperation between the two brotherly countries and peoples.
The two ministers exchanged views on key regional and international developments of mutual concern, including the The African Union Stabilization Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), and stressed the importance of collective action to promote peace, stability, and diplomatic engagement across the region.
The meeting further paved the way for discussions on trilateral cooperation between Somalia, Egypt, and Eritrea. Both sides welcomed ongoing consultations aimed at enhancing regional dialogue and coordination, with a shared focus on integration, stability, and joint development goals.
Minister Ahmed Fiqi expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support in various fields and reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to deepening ties to serve mutual interests.
On his side, Minister Abdel Atty reiterated Egypt’s support for Somalia’s unity and sovereignty, and its national institutions, highlighting the need for regional solidarity in addressing shared security and development challenges.
The two ministers agreed to maintain close coordination in regional and international forums and to continue strengthening cooperation in areas of common interest, guided by the deep historical and fraternal ties between the two countries.
