Somali Deputy FM Participates in 6th g7+ Ministerial Meeting in Timor-Leste

Dili (MFA Somalia) – The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Mr. Isaak Mohamud Mursal, participated in the 6th g7+ Ministerial Meeting held in Dili on Friday, April 11, under the theme “Fifteen Years of Unity: Shaping the Future of Peace and Resilience”.

The two-day Ministerial-level Meeting, which runs from April 11–12, brings together representatives from the 20 member states to reflect on the organization’s achievements over the past fifteen years and to outline strategies for future peacebuilding and development efforts.In his address, the Deputy Minister highlighted Somalia’s progress in state-building, focusing on institutional reform, national stabilization, and the strengthening of international confidence. He underscored the country’s recent election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council as a symbol of resilience and growing international trust in Somalia’s recovery and leadership role on the global stage.

Founded in 2010 in Dili, the g7+ is an intergovernmental organization made up of conflict-affected and fragile countries.

The group aims to enhance peacebuilding and state-building through collective learning and mutual support while advocating for the inclusion of fragile states in global decision-making.The g7+ currently comprises 20 member states from Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and the Caribbean. It is distinct from the G7 group of advanced economies, with the “+” symbolizing the group’s openness to additional fragile and conflict-affected countries that share similar development challenges.
