Somali FM Launches Lecture on Diplomacy and Peace in the Horn of Africa

Mogadishu (MFA Somalia) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Amb. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, inaugurated on Wednesday a public lecture titled “Lessons from the Field: A Diplomatic journey toward Peace in the Horn of Africa,” delivered by H.E. Amb. Dr. Nureldin Mohamed Hamed Satti, former Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to the United States of America, at the Ministry’s Institute of Diplomatic Studies in Mogadishu.Mr. Mohamed Mohamud Gure, Director of the Institute of Diplomatic Studies, welcomed the guest speaker and attendees, highlighting the Institute’s commitment to fostering knowledge-sharing through continued engagement with experienced diplomats and experts.In his lecture, Amb. Nureldin Satti discussed key challenges in the Horn of Africa, focusing on the crises in Sudan, South Sudan, and Somalia. He emphasized the importance of dialogue, traditional federalism, and regional cooperation as pathways to peace and stability, drawing on his diplomatic experience to highlight practical approaches to conflict resolution and governance.The lecture drew an audience of more than 250 participants, including senior government officials, civil servants, diplomats, scholars, and students from the Institute of Diplomatic Studies. The strong turnout reflected a growing interest in regional peacebuilding and diplomacy, particularly among the younger generation. Attendees engaged actively with the discussion, expressing appreciation for the insights shared by Amb. Satti and the relevance of his experience to the current challenges facing the Horn of Africa.
