Somali Foreign Minister Meets Algerian Counterpart Ahead of Arab Development Summit in Baghdad

Baghdad (MFA Somalia) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, met on Friday in Baghdad with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Attaf, on the sidelines of the 34th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit Level and the fifth Arab Development Summit scheduled for May 17.Minister Attaf congratulated his Somali counterpart on his recent appointment and conveyed his best wishes for success. He reaffirmed the strong relations between the two countries and the importance of continued coordination in regional and international forums, particularly as both nations currently serve as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.

For his part, Minister Abdisalam emphasized the historic ties between Somalia and Algeria and underscored the need to deepen cooperation and partnership on shared Arab and African concerns.He also reiterated Somalia’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy and active engagement within the United Nations, the African Union, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the League of Arab States.
