Lilongwe (MFA Somalia) – The non-resident Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the Republic of Malawi, H.E. Ilyas Ali Hassan, formally presented his Letters of Credence to H.E. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, on Thursday, July 3, during a ceremony held at Kamuzu Palace in the capital, Lilongwe.
The presentation reflects the ongoing diplomatic engagement between Somalia and Malawi, whose relations date back to the post-independence period. Cooperation between the two countries is often facilitated through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and the African Union.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Ilyas conveyed warm greetings and heartfelt wishes from H.E. Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, to President Chakwera and the friendly people of Malawi. He expressed Somalia’s strong desire to deepen cooperation, strengthen mutual understanding, and foster closer ties in pursuit of shared interests and regional solidarity.
On his part, President Chakwera extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Ilyas and affirmed Malawi’s eagerness to enhance diplomatic relations with Somalia, stressing the importance of continuous collaboration and shared goals between both countries.
