Dar es Salaam (MFA Somalia) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Amb. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, signed three agreements today in Dar es Salaam with Tanzania’s Ministers of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hon. Prof. Palamagamba John Aidan Mwaluko, and Home Affairs, Hon. Innocent Lugha Bashungwa.
The agreements include a Cooperation Agreement on Safety and Security, an Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons, and a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Development of Kiswahili Language and Culture.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdullahi Bidhaan Warsame, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Tanzania, H.E. Ilyas Ali Hassan, and the Deputy Director General of the Presidential Palace of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Amin Osman.
These agreements further strengthen bilateral relations, focusing on the transfer of sentenced persons as the Federal Government of Somalia works to facilitate the return of Somali citizens held in Tanzanian prisons, while the MoU on Kiswahili language development aligns with the country’s membership in the East African Community (EAC), where Kiswahili is widely spoken among member states.
This follows the signing of four key agreements on December 19, 2024, in Mogadishu, covering political cooperation, joint defense, health, and tourism.
