This commitment is in full alignment with the Charter of the United Nations, which affirms respect for the sovereignty of states and non‑interference in their internal affairs; with the founding principles of the African Union, which oblige all member states to preserve the territorial integrity of African countries and to refrain from recognizing any illegitimate separatist attempts; and with the rules of general international law, which reject any unilateral measures that undermine internationally recognized borders.
