Jeddah (MFA Somalia) – The Federal Republic of Somalia reaffirmed its unwavering support for Palestine during the Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held on Friday in Jeddah. H.E. Amb. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi Ahmed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, emphasized Somalia’s continued commitment to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
In his speech, Minister Ahmed Fiqi extended his congratulations to the Islamic world on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting the meeting. He strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression and reiterated Somalia’s firm stance on the right of Palestinians to self-determination.
The Minister highlighted the importance of fully implementing relevant international resolutions, advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also condemned the ongoing siege on Palestine and called for the lifting of all pressures, especially during Ramadan, in accordance with humanitarian principles and international law.
Fiqi praised the collaborative efforts of Egypt, Palestine, and other Arab nations in supporting recovery and reconstruction initiatives in Palestine. He stressed the need for international solidarity to ease Palestinian suffering and create conditions conducive to achieving a just and lasting peace.
The Minister also acknowledged the mediation efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States in facilitating a ceasefire, expressing hope that these initiatives would lead to a permanent political solution that ensures the protection of Palestinian rights. He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to the two-state solution and emphasized the need for a clear timeline to achieve comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.
Additionally, Minister Ahmed Fiqi welcomed the return of the Syrian Arab Republic to the OIC and emphasized the need for collective action to support Syria’s stability and reconstruction efforts, ensuring security and prosperity for its people.
In conclusion, the Minister reaffirmed Somalia’s dedication to the principles and goals of the OIC and called for greater unity and cooperation among member states to address regional and international challenges with wisdom and responsibility.
