Somalia Reaffirms Unity After Israel’s Illegal Recognition of Somaliland

Mogadishu (MFA Somalia) – The Diaspora Affairs Department (DAD) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation organized an open discussion on Thursday on the role of the Somali diaspora in defending national sovereignty.

The discussion addressed Israel’s illegal decision to recognize the Somaliland region in northwestern Somalia, a move viewed as undermining Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Hamza Adan Haadoow, opened the session, reaffirming that Israel’s decision has no legal effect and emphasizing the importance of national unity and social cohesion as fundamental pillars in safeguarding the country’s constitutional integrity.Participants, including members of the Somali diaspora and Somali intellectuals, highlighted the value of unity, coordinated advocacy, and peaceful engagement, and discussed ways overseas Somali communities can contribute to strengthening cohesion and supporting official positions through lawful and constructive means.
