Foreign Minister Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi received the United Republic of Tanzania’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, at Mogadishu International Airport today. Accompanying the distinguished Tanzanian delegation was Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Tanzanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Tanzanian delegation was welcomed by FM Fiqi, alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia, Hamza Haadow, and other senior officials.
This landmark visit signifies a new era in Somalia-Tanzania relations, as both nations prepare to formalize a series of historic agreements aimed at advancing mutual interests and fostering closer collaboration.
The agreements, which will be signed in Mogadishu, are strategically designed to strengthen cooperation in vital sectors:
• Defense: Enhancing peace and security for regional stability.
• Tourism: Promoting cultural ties and economic opportunities.
• Health: Building resilient healthcare systems.
• Aviation: Establishing direct flights between Mogadishu and Dar es Salaam to boost connectivity and economic integration.
• General Cooperation: Expanding partnerships across diverse areas of strategic importance.
This initiative stems from the productive discussions held earlier this year during His Excellency President Hassan Sheikh
Mohamud’s visit to Dar es Salaam, where he engaged in meaningful dialogue with Her Excellency President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
As Somalia solidifies its role within the East African Community, these agreements underscore its commitment to fostering regional integration, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing mutual prosperity.
