The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mourns the Passing of Ambassador (Col. Retired) Mohamed Ahmed Caalin

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation extends its deepest condolences on the passing of Ambassador (Col. Retired) Mohamed Ahmed Caalin, who passed away peacefully at his home in London on November 22, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Ambassador Caalin’s distinguished career spanned over five decades, beginning in the Somali Police and National Army, where he specialized in logistics and tank warfare, and later established the Directorate of Military Sports, leading to the success of Horseed FC.

Wounded during the 1977 war, he transitioned to diplomacy, serving as Somalia’s Ambassador to several countries, including Pakistan, where he strengthened ties and opened scholarship opportunities for over 5,000 Somali students.

A passionate advocate for Somali sports, he was honored as Somalia’s Olympic flag bearer in Athens 2004.
Ambassador Caalin will be remembered for his lifelong service, dedication, and contributions to Somalia. May Allah have mercy on his soul and grant his family strength during this time of loss.
